With a nod to the African lion, "King of the Beasts," and often pictured on grassy plains, I decided to paint "The American King."  Portraying the North American mountain lion shaded in the dry grasses of the Santa Rosa Plateau in Southern California, looking every bit as regal as its relative, and beautifully camouflaged in dappled shade.
